His approach combines practical systems thinking with a passion for decarbonisation, founding ICE to bridge the gap between ambitious concepts and successful implementation.

Paul Halstead

Projects & Execution Lead

Paul is an expert in the construction, commissioning, and delivery of engineered systems, particularly in complex industrial environments. He brings a strong background in project execution, helping ICE clients move from the planning stage to a fully operational system. His work covers critical aspects like scheduling, budgeting, contractor coordination, and on-site problem-solving to ensure designs are successfully built and running.

Mark Frecheville

Business Development and Strategy

Mark is a proactive and creative business professional with over 30 years’ experience in early-stage business development with a focus on technology commercialisation, strategy and finance. With C-Suite experience across a range of industries including carbon advisory, waste recovery and innovative torrefaction/pyrolysis technology, Mark possesses a highly analytical skillset to help ICE and its clients achieve their goals.

Tony Hofsted

Construction – Site Manager

With extensive experience in major industrial site delivery, Tony is an authority on site execution and safety. He brings a wealth of experience in greenfield and brownfield construction management across energy and infrastructure projects. Having led site teams from foundation to commissioning, he has deep knowledge of OH&S compliance and multi-stakeholder environments, ensuring ICE’s field operations are safe, efficient, and ready for execution.

Alf Crowe

Quality Manager

Alf is ICE’s expert in project quality systems, supply chain compliance, and industrial relations. He’s spent nearly four decades overseeing fabrication and construction delivery, developing and auditing quality systems that stand up to scrutiny. Alf ensures that the systems we deliver are not only functional but are also built to last with meticulous quality traceability.

Jon Wilson

Senior Mechanical Engineer

Jon leads ICE’s mechanical engineering, overseeing design, compliance, and development for heavy systems. His responsibilities cover everything from carbonisation unit design to heavy lifting systems and custom frameworks. With a strong background in manufacturing and equipment design, he is key to translating process requirements into physical, built solutions that are both safe and effective.

Tom Griffin

Carbon Materials Specialist

A specialist in pyrolysis chemistry, feedstock performance, and carbon material development. Tom’s expertise lies in matching biomass feedstocks to specific carbon applications, supporting the design of tailored char for filtration, metallurgy, or graphitisation. His role spans process design, material testing, and product validation, ensuring ICE’s systems meet industrial-grade specifications.

Jack Whitelaw

Project/Mechanical Engineer

Jack is a key member of ICE’s next-generation engineering team, bringing fresh insight and analytical capability. With five years of hands-on experience across biomass conversion, char systems, and thermal process development, he supports design, modeling, and site coordination across our growing portfolio of client projects, helping to translate innovative ideas into tangible results.

Senior Project Manager

Mr Sonny Hoang is a Project Manager with 25+ years’ experience delivering industrial infrastructure across Australia’s energy, resources and manufacturing sectors. He leads multidisciplinary teams on greenfield and brownfield projects with a focus on safety, compliance and reliability, managing the full lifecycle from feasibility to handover.

Dr Debra Pearce

Agricultural/Environmental Consultant

Dr Debra Pearce has provided environmental community, and agricultural development consulting services to all regions of  Australia since 2010. Dr Pearce holds a Bachelor of Science, Master of Arts in Ecologically Sustainable Development, and a PhD in Geography. Her PhD research focused on WA agricultural development.

Barry Wilson

Agricultural Materials Specialist

With a double major in plant and animal biology from the University of Southern Queensland, Barry has built a career in sustainable agriculture. After early work in research and consulting, he focused on improving farming efficiency. Using his expertise in polymer chemistry, Barry has integrated conventional chemistries with organic materials to enhance nutrient and water-use efficiency for more sustainable agriculture.
